LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville women’s bowling team won the Striking Knights Classic by over 700 pins through six team games and four blocks of Baker play on Sunday.
Pikeville tallied a total pin fall of 8,865, while Morehead State finished second with 8,107 and Calumet (Ind.) rounded out the top three with a score of 7,920.
UPIKE not only won the varsity championship, but also took first and second place in the junior-varsity standings with the JV2 team finishing first and JV1 taking second place.
The Bears’ varsity and junior-varsity all-tournament team selections combined include Jenna Coldiron, Angel West, Karlee Evans, Erin Cosner, Samanta Holbrook, Morgan Lantvit and Emily Porter.
In the team games, UPIKE led the classic with a score of 1,101 in the third game. In Baker play, where individual bowlers combine for one score, the Bears posted a high block of 866 in its fourth and final series of games.
The Bears will have a few weeks off before returning to action in the Tier 1 ranks with the Keystone Roto Grip Classic in Allentown, Pa., on Dec. 27-28.
