Pro Baseball – Suns top Legends 6-2 in season’s last game

Jose Marmolejos and Adderling Ruiz homered as the Hagerstown Suns took a 6-2 win over the Lexington Legends Monday afternoon at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in the final game of the 2015 season for both teams.

The Suns scored one run in the top of the first inning when leadoff hitter Andrew Stevenson walked, stole second, went to third on a single by Marmolejos and scored on a sacrifice fly by D.K. Carey.

A two-run third inning put the Suns up 3-0.  Austin Davidson led off with a single, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Stevenson.   Stevenson took second when the throw from the outfield got past first baseman Samir Duenez for an error.  Stevenson stole third, and after Osvaldo Abreu walked, Stevenson came home when Marmolejos grounded into a force play at second base.

Ruiz’ homer in the fourth inning gave Hagerstown a 4-0 lead.

The Legends scored their first run in the sixth inning.  With one out, Austin Bailey doubled, and walks to Chad Johnson and Anderson Miller loaded the bases.  Bailey scored as Duenez grounded into a force at second.

Hagerstown scored its last two runs in the eighth, one coming on a leadoff home run by Marmolejos, who finished the season with a South Atlantic League-leading total of 87 runs batted in.

Bailey’s ground-rule double and a single by Duenez produced Lexington’s final run in the bottom of the eighth.

Suns starter Erick Fedde (1-2) got the win.  He retired the first nine batters he faced, and gave up only two hits in five innings.  He struck out seven batters and walked one.

Lexington starter Corey Ray (5-7) was the losing pitcher.
