Pro Baseball – Legends announce 2016 schedule

Legends Logo  (WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.)   The Lexington Legends will open the 2016 season Thursday, April 7 at Whitaker Bank Ballpark against the Lakewood BlueClaws.  The 2016 season will also mark the return of the South Atlantic League All-Star game to Lexington for the first time since 2003.  The All-Star game is scheduled for Tuesday, June 21.

The season will begin with a seven-game homestand April 7-13.  The Legends, class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, will take on the BlueClaws, an affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, in a four-game series, followed by a three-game set with the Augusta GreenJackets, an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

The 2016 schedule features 11 home games in April, 15 in May, 12 in June, 15 in July, 16 in August and one in September. The schedule includes nine full weekends, when the Legends will be at home on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Popular promotions such as Thirsty Thursdays, education days, fireworks nights, military appreciation, special nights for charitable organizations and many others will be part of Legends baseball in 2016, as will some of the top entertainment acts on the minor league circuit.

Game times and the complete promotions schedule will be announced later.

The Legends’ nearest South Atlantic League rival, the West Virginia Power, an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, will make three trips to Lexington in 2016:  April 21-24, June 13-15 and August 16-18 for a total of 10 games.  The Rome Braves, an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, will be in Lexington twice, June 2-4 and June 30-July 3 for a total of seven games.  The Legends will celebrate Independence Day on July 3, and will be on the road the next night at Asheville.

The Legends will welcome the Columbia (S.C.) Fireflies July 23-26.  The Columbia team will be in its first year of operation following a move from Savannah.  The team remains an affiliate of the New York Mets.  The Legends will visit Spirit Communications Park, a new facility in Columbia, for a three-game series April 26-28.

Among other teams to play at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in 2016 are the Greenville Drive, an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox; the Charleston RiverDogs, an affiliate of the New York Yankees; and the Kannapolis Intimidators, an affiliate of the Chicago White Sox.

All 13 of the Legends’ South Atlantic League opponents will visit for at least one series.

“For 2016, the Legends look forward to starting the year off with Lakewood and welcoming the Columbia Fireflies in their inaugural season,” said Legends Director of Group Sales Mike Allison.  “With an increase in attendance for two consecutive seasons, and being host for the South Atlantic League All-Star Game, the 2016 season  is looking legendary!”

The Legends offer a variety of season ticket plans, which are on sale now. Company and group outings may be booked now as well. Individual game tickets will be available for sale in March. For more information, call the Legends box office at (859) 422-7867 or visitwww.lexingtonlegends.com.
