UConn vs Colorado

The first game of the first session here in Des Moines had the UConn Huskies taking on the Colorado Buffalos. It was a very competitive first half with Colorado pulling ahead late in the half to take a 9 point lead into the locker room. UConn was led in scoring by Jalen Adams and Omar Calhoun both with 5 points. Colorado was led by Josh Scott with 13 points and Wesley Gordon who pulled down 6 rebounds.
The story of the first half was field goal percentage with UConn shooting 33.3% and Colorado shooting 50%.
Both teams came out playing some good defense to start the second half. UConn’s smothering defense and transition game gave the Huskies a three point lead at the 10:54 mark of half causing a quick time out by the Colorado coaching staff.
UConn’s hot shooting continued especially from behind the arc. Their lead stretched to 66-55 with 2:22 to play. However, the Buffalos refused to throw in the towel and fought back to cut the lead to only 3 points with just 59.6 seconds left to play. The Huskies good free throw shooting held off the charging Buffalos down the stretch.
The final score was 74-67 in favor of the UConn Huskies who will survive and advance to take on the winner of Kansas and Austin Peay on Saturday.
