Dayton won by scores of 26-24, 25-15 and 25-13.
Facing a 9-2 deficit early in the first, a poised Eastern team worked its way back into the set. The Colonels outscored the Flyers 6-1 before tying the set at 19. Rachel Vick and the Eastern Kentucky offense tallied five kills over the span shifting momentum in favor of the Colonels.
Eastern took a 21-20 lead before extending its lead to three, 24-21. However, the Flyers rallied to close with five consecutive points to take the first set.
The Flyers came from behind to take a 4-3 advantage before leading by as many as eight in the second. Dayton used 16.5 total blocks in the set to limit the Colonels to a .056 hitting percentage, while logging a .273 in the same category.
In the deciding set, a 6-0 Dayton run proved too much for the Colonels to overcome as the Flyers won in straight sets.
Vick hit .300 on the night and tied for a team-high nine kills. Celina Sanks also posted nine kills along with 10 digs for the Colonels.
Eastern Kentucky (7-19, 6-4 OVC) has won its last four Ohio Valley Conference matches and will continue conference play this weekend.
The Colonels travel to Tennessee State University Friday for the first of two OVC weekend matches before taking on Belmont University on Saturday.
