College Sports – Illini Women finish play in France with a 2-1 record.

Paris, France – Led by freshman Cierra Rice, the Fighting Illini posted a 91-52 victory over Bretigny Select on Friday (Aug. 14). Rice finished with 23 points for the Illini, including going a perfect 13-for-13 from the line. Friday’s win concludes play in France for the Illini, however the team will travel to Lyon and Nice before returning to Champaign, Ill., on Aug. 20.

The Illini once again got off to an early lead in the game and never looked back. Illinois closed the first quarter with a 12 point lead over Bretigny then pulled away to a 22 point lead at the close of the third quarter.

Sophomore Chatrice White recorded another double-double, her third of the trip, as she grabbed 14 rebounds and tallied 18 points for the Illini. Kyley Simmons also scored in double-figures with 14 points on the night.

Junior Ashley McConnell racked up 12 points after shooting lights out from beyond the arc. She made 4-of-4 triples, contributing to the team’s 10 threes in the game.

The Illini assisted on 22 of 28 shots made in the game, both Simmons and freshmanJaelyne Kirkpatrick dished six assists on the night.

The Illini will take a 2-1 record home from France after playing three games on consecutive days in Paris.
