In a year where everyone was talking about Belfry, Corbin, Elizabethtown & Central as the favorites for the 3A crown, Boyle County quietly went about their business and finished 14-1 with a State Championship under their belt. Boyle’s only loss was to 2A Finalist Danville, early in the season and finished with 12 straight wins. Corbin, who was on a run of their own after defeating Central last week, in route to their 10th straight win. Corbin’s last loss was to 1A Champion Beechwood earlier in the season.

Corbin fell behind 21-7 in the first quarter and simply would not recover losing 40-21. Boyle jumped out to a 14-0 behind a 38 yard touchdown pass to REESE SMITH from REED LANTER. Boyle followed that up with REESE SMITH 40 yd interception return for a score. Corbin bounced back with C GOSSELIN catching a 17 yd pass from C SIZEMORE making it 14-7 Boyle County. The final score of the game came in the 4th quarter as REILEY COLWICK caught a 35 yd td pass from REED LANTER giving Boyle a 40-21 lead and final score.

The game wasn’t close statistically as Boyle dominated the stat sheet. Boyle led Corbin in first downs 24-13. Boyle also dominated in yards from scrimmage 460-206 including 237 yards rushing to Corbin’s 125. Boyle had 223 yards passing to 81 for Corbin. The start of the game had to be Reese Smith who had 4 touchdowns to include 120 yards on 5 receptions with 3 receiving touchdowns. C SIZEMORE was 12-23 passing with 3 interceptions, 81 yards passing and 2 touchdowns.

Corbin will go back to work to try to make it back to the Title game next year. They can be assured Coach Haddix will have them ready for the long journey back to the mountain top. Congratulations to both teams on great season.
