Championship week in High School Football

Well it is finally here. Championship week in High School Football. A season of hard work. Teams working through injuries to get back to the promised land. Teams surprising everyone to make it to the big dance. A repeat of last year’s championship games and revenge time for those knocked out of last years title hopes. Teams expected to be here, but unfortunately had to go home early and plan on “next year”. All great story lines for what has been a very memorable season.

In Class 1A, Last years Champions, Beechwood, will return to the title game to face Raceland, a team knocked out in the quarterfinals last year. Beechwood dispatched of Campbellsville 63-7, while Raceland edged by Pikeville 17-14.

In Class 2A, the undefeated Danville Admirals, last years Runnerup, made easy work of Glasgow 43-0. Danville will face Mayfield in the title game after Mayfield beat Christian Academy 21-14. Mayfield lost in the semifinals last year.

In Class 3A, the Corbin Redhounds, a team that lost to Belfry in the Semi finals last year won a thriller over Central 21-20 to advance to take on Boyle County. Boyle County went to Elizabethtown and won 14-7. Boyle lost in the 2nd round last year.

In Class 4A, a rematch of last years title game will feature Champions Johnson Central against Franklin – Simpson. Last year, Johnson Central defeated Franklin – Simpson 48-0 in the title game so Franklin – Simpson has a lot to prove. Johnson Central returned to the title game for the 3rd straight year by defeating Wayne County 43-24. Franklin – Simpson earned the rematch with a hard fought 42-38 over Collins.

In Class 5A, Covington Catholic remained undefeated at 14-0 with a win over South Warren. Covington Catholic lost in the quarter finals last year. Covington Catholic will face Madison Southern who defeated Harlan 27-20. Madison Southern lost in the 2nd round last year.

In Class 6 A, Trinity, last years Champions returns to face St. Xavier, a team Trinity defeated in the Semi’s the year before. Trinity beat Central Hardin 49-3 to advance while St. Xavier beat Scott County 48-35 to advance to the title game and seek revenge on the team that kept them from  title shot last year.
