November 9, 2018 – Williamsburg, Kentucky – JJ Baker – Bluegrass Sports Nation – Hazard Football Columnist

The Hazard Bulldogs’ run to a state title appearance was cut short Friday night when they fell to the Williamsburg Yellow Jackets. Coming into the game both teams seemed evenly matched. In reality they were, to an extent. This game was eerily similar to the 2013 game where Hazard fell to the Yellow Jackets 21-7 in another muddy game that mirrored this one in nearly every aspect. October 25, 2018 – Hazard, Kentucky – JJ Baker – Bluegrass Sports Nation – Hazard Football Columnist

Coming into the game against the Hazard Bulldogs, the Whitley County Colonels seemed to be struggling. They were 3-6 on the season and had just lost a heart breaker to Letcher. They came into the game with only 686 yards passing on the season with the majority of their offensive yardage coming on the ground in the form of Zack Saylor who had racked up 803 yards rushing with 7 touchdowns. Then, Friday night they found their air attack and had the Bulldogs on their heels and scrambling to hold the Colonels at bay in the closing minutes of the game.

There is a rich tradition around the mountains when talking about Class A football programs. You immediately think about the Lynch East Main state champions of 1959, 60, 63, and 68. The Jack Hall led 1964 Elkhorn City State Champions knocked off Russellville at the old Stoll Field on UK’s campus 33-7.
