College Football – FIVE COLONELS SCORE SEVEN TOUCHDOWNS AS EKU OPENS SEASON WITH 52-10 WIN OVER VALPO

College Sports – EKU TO INTRODUCE TOUCHDOWN TERRACE, BEER SALES, AT SELECT HOME FOOTBALL GAMES

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University will introduce its new Touchdown Terrace with beer sales at select home football games this season.  Eastern joins other universities in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, including the University of Louisville, in offering alcohol sales at sporting events. College Sports – BIRMINGHAM BOWL MVP, FORMER GATOR RUNNING BACK JOINS EKU FOOTBALL TEAM

RICHMOND, Ky. – Adam Lane, who was named the MVP of the 2015 Birmingham Bowl while playing at the University of Florida, has joined the Eastern Kentucky University football team.  Lane, will be eligible to play immediately and will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. College Football – EKU – FIRST STATS FCS POLL PUTS EKU NO. 17 IN THE NATION

NEW YORK – Eastern Kentucky University’s football team is ranked No. 17 in the nation in the STATS FCS Top 25 preseason poll, released on Monday.

Kentucky Sports – EKU MEN’S BASKETBALL TO PARTICIPATE IN 2018 U.S. VIRGIN ISLANDS PARADISE JAM

Paradise Jam EKURICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team will play in the 2018 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam, Head Coach Dan McHale announced today.

The field of eight will play three games each.  The tentative dates for the event are Nov. 16, 17, 18 and 19, 2018.  Complete pairings will not be announced until the summer of 2018.

“We are thrilled to be participating in the 2018 Paradise Jam,” McHale said.  “I have been fortunate enough to participate in it twice and can’t wait to take the Colonels to the Virgin Islands.”

Accommodations, ground travel and ticket packages will be available for Colonel fans through Basketball Travelers, Inc.

The eight participants in last year’s field included Seton Hall, Illinois State, Old Dominion, Clemson, Gardner-Webb, LSU, Weber State and Nevada.  The 2015 field includes DePaul, Florida State, Hofstra, Indiana State, Norfolk State, Ohio, South Carolina and Tulsa.

“We will play against top-notch competition and our players and fans will be treated to an amazing experience,” said McHale.  “We look forward for the EKU faithful joining us and being a part of something special.”

The Colonels participated in the 2005 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam.  EKU nearly beat Wisconsin in the first round before falling 95-89 in double overtime.  Eastern then knocked off Norfolk State 67-60 before closing out play with a 76-68 loss to Georgia.

Kentucky Sports – EKU ADDS ALL-STATE POINT GUARD FOR 2015-16

RICHMOND, Ky. – All-state point guard Dujuanta Weaver from Louisville has signed to play at Eastern Kentucky University beginning this upcoming season, head coach Dan McHale announced today.

“We are thrilled to welcome Tay to the Colonel family,” McHale said.  “He will add to our backcourt depth and fit into our style of play nicely. He had a great career at Doss High School under Tony Williams and will continue to thrive in our up-tempo system.”

Weaver, a second team all-state selection and the Courier-Journal Sixth Region Player of the Year, hit 60 three-pointers and averaged 16.9 points per game while leading Doss High School to quarterfinals of the 2015 Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys Sweet Sixteen.  He shot 44 percent from the field and grabbed four rebounds per game.

Doss High School finished the 2014-15 season with a 27-7 record and won the sixth region championship.  Weaver scored 13 points with five steals and three assists in a 56-50 victory over Williamsburg in the first round of the Sweet 16.  The 5-foot-9 guard had 10 points, five assists and five rebounds in a second round loss to Covington Catholic.

 

“Being from Kentucky, Tay understands how special it is to play college basketball in this great state while getting a valuable education from EKU,” said McHale.

In addition to Weaver, Nick Mayo (6-foot-8, 225, forward), Greg King (6-foot-7, 225, forward), Anthony Pratt (6-foot-6, forward), Jarelle Reischel (6-foot-5, 210, guard) and Cameron Williams (5-foot-11, 170, guard) will join the Colonel program for the upcoming season as well.
